Will’s Women have Boisterous Heart

Tie dye, dungarees and shell suits. A 90s rave provides the backdrop for Shakespeare’s, The Taming of the Shrew. During London’s heat wave, twelve women skank (in both meanings; dance moves and swindling charms) above the Oxford Arms in Camden.

Beautiful Bianca is chained to be forever unloved due to her older sister, Katharina’s, bitter nature. Untameable, Katharina is far from marriage material, but until she’s wed – no one is getting their hands on young Bianca. And so the scheming begins.

If you’re a lover of Gil Junger’s, 10 Things I Hate About You, the chick flick based on this tale of pranks and impish deceit – you will love Get Over It Production’s adaptation of William’s most wicked wench. Full of mischief, these girls are game for playing fools, resulting in an hour of good, plain, fun. Liverpudlian (Catherine Higgins) and East End (Paula Benson) tones of Shakespeare give a fittingly boisterous heart to this play.

TOTS2The cast build upon the comedy of the script with action; swift gangster movements all in unison tickle the audience and the raving dance steps include the running man and an exaggerated two step. The cast bring enough energy and focus to the play to not need a set.

Get Over It Productions have created an hour of accessible theatre, making Shakespeare’s complexities enjoyable for all. Turn up the music and hopefully not the heat, The Taming of the Shrew awaits you at Ecetera Theatre.
