You, Me and Ze

United by sparkling, glitter pasted cheeks, the audience warms up for Áine Flanagan Productions, Prom Kween. A love story blossoms on stage between an individual and themselves – that’s right, no love triangle needed to cause chaos in this high school musical. A fabulous lesson is given on how to be who you want to be, not how others perceive you.

Bursting through golden tin foil, a pink sequinned version of drag queen, Ru Paul makes a dazzling entrance. Four actors on stage take it in turn to play the confused, young Matthew, who is deciding his/her future. Formally addressed as ‘ze’ rather than he or she, binary genders are thrown out the door.

Above the moral message driven throughout this production it is fun and mischief at it’s core. The audience laugh, dance and squeal with delight.
